About South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS)

Who we are and what we do

We provide 999 and 111 services for a population of 4.4million across the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire. We also run Patient Transport Services in Hampshire and Milton Keynes.

We are one of 10 ambulance services in England.

Our three main functions are

Dispatcher on a call

The accident and emergency service to respond to 999 calls

Our 999 emergency service operates around the clock across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

Our road crews work with emergency call takers, dispatchers and clinicians working in our two call centres to deal with 1.2million 999 calls each year.

Dispatcher on a call

The 111 service for when medical help is needed fast but it’s not a 999 emergency

NHS 111 is a non-emergency phone service and website for urgent medical help or advice. NHS 111 is free and open 24/7, every day of the year.

Dispatcher on a call

The Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service

We provide Patient Transport Services (PTS) in Hampshire and Milton Keynes.

The service is for eligible patients who are unable to use private or public transport, due to their medical condition, to get to and from hospital or other healthcare centres. Our teams are made up of ambulance care assistants, call takers, dispatchers, team leaders and support staff.

Our vision is to deliver: The right care, first time, for our patients
